Understanding Trump

His detractors don't have a clue!

I have never read “The Art of the Deal”. Perhaps someday I will. But observing Trump’s actions over the years, I believe I know, at least in part, how he thinks.

Trump is a pragmatist. He doesn’t paint himself symbolically into corners. He always has options open to him. Good pilots or mariners have the same traits; they always leave themselves alternates if the original destination becomes unavailable.

In the case of Iran, he has always kept a carrot available in case the stick isn’t working as planned.

Over the years since the Islamists took over Iran in 1979, a series of Presidential administrations have taught the Iranians that all they had to do was play good cop, bad cop to get what they wanted. Threaten military actions, and then offer to negotiate a settlement to end hostilities. It always worked in the past, so they have come to believe that it always will in the future.

Then along came Trump.

They, and the rest of the world, can’t figure him out. He is unpredictable, and that’s what the “Art of the Deal” means to him. Don’t place all your cards on the table. Always have a couple held close to the vest. That’s something our adversaries can’t understand, and it may end up being our greatest strength in the game of 4-D chess we are playing.

Currently, I believe that Trump is trying to create an atmosphere where he can keep control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections, when history teaches that rarely happens for the party in power. To do that, he must keep the economy stable, the stock market at record highs, and the price of oil and gasoline as low as possible. That’s a big order.

So, he must appear to be willing to acquiesce to a less-than-desirable deal with the Iranian regime. His hold card is that he intends to do no such thing. Continuing to make selective strikes every time the Iranians or their proxies attack us or our allies in the region lets us further degrade their ability to continue the conflict.

He has already demonstrated that this isn/t a “Tit for Tat” situation. The Iranians bring a knife to the fight; we respond with a gun, a BIG gun.

I predict that while we continue to “negotiate”, behind the scenes we are preparing to drop the sledgehammer. If we knock out all the bridges for road and rail on the Iranian border, decimate all Iranian ports, and then carpet bomb all airport runways capable of accommodating large aircraft, we will effectively end Iran’s capability to rearm and refit its military. This could happen at any time, but certainly will immediately after the midterms, either way they go.

The pragmatist in Trump knows that if the Democrats take the House, it will be an impeachment shit show for the next two years. If they also take the Senate, they may be able to convict him and remove him from office. Before any of that can happen, he will use his Executive Powers and position as Commander in Chief of the military to completely defeat Iran. They won’t be “Flat, Black, and Glow in the Dark”, but it will be close. They won’t be a threat for MANY years to come. Regime change is even possible.

Then he will turn to the seditious Democrats and their Democratic Socialists of America communist allies. They won’t know what hit them! Fire up the milk and cookie-equipped safe rooms, children. You’re going to need a lot of them!
