Three Blind Mice......
See how the RUIN!
If there ever were three political leaders more blind to the reality of the futility of driving the wealthy out of your city/state tax base than Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, and New York Governor Kathy Hochul, I don’t know who they are.
Each one of these “leaders” (and I purposely put that in quotes) has figuratively given the middle finger to wealthy residents or businesses, telling them, “don’t let the door hit you in the ass as you leave, we don’t need you”.
Now, at least Hochul has changed her tune, pleading for New Yorkers who have uprooted and fled to the tax havens of Florida, Tennessee, Texas, or elsewhere to come back and pay their “fair share” of the tax burden. Fat chance of that.
Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher once observed, “The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of everyone else’s money”. Mamdani has already hit that threshold, and he is only four months into his term.
The thing about these idiots is that they don’t seem to realize that the rich can close up shop and move. Modern electronics have made brick-and-mortar facilities much more flexible. Wall Street is only a state of mind. The milling, shouting, traders on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange will soon be a relic of the past, and the lure of being a resident of the “Big Apple” has lost its charm when you have to pay exorbitant prices to live in what amounts to an expensive hovel.
Socialism, and its extreme version, Communism, promise equality, but those who have been forced to live under it realize that the masses are equally impoverished, while a small ruling class collects the largess of the workers’ labor. What happens in such a society is exemplified by the comment of a worker in a newly opened Soviet Union tractor factory in the 1960s. When anonymously interviewed by a reporter for a neutral country publication, an assembly line mechanic said, “They pretend to pay us, and we pretend to work!”
It might be worth it to send leaders of the recent May Day protests to Cuba on an all-expense-paid three-month trip to experience the everyday life of a Cuban citizen. They would be housed with an ordinary Cuban family, eat what they eat, and live as they live for three months. Their expense allowance would be equal to a Cuban average salary. I think it would be an eye-opening experience.
The Biden/Harris administration should have been a lesson to Americans as to what their lives would be if they once again put the Democratic Party, as presently constituted, back in power. The promises, as in the case of New York and Seattle, would soon prove empty. DEI would trump merit, and fraud would become the rule, not the exception. Down that road, as I have said before, lies civil war if Democrats follow the lead of people like the Three Blind Mice.
