The Odyssey Farce

Don't support it!

I just watched an interesting Facebook post by political commentator Konstantin Krisin. It concerned the new movie adaptation of the ancient Greek epic “The Odyssey” by the Greek poet Homer.

Kristin basically said that criticism of the director, Christopher Nolan, who also wrote the screenplay and co-produced the film with his wife Emma Thomas, was unjustified.

Kristin’s take is that, although the cast includes Kenyan black actress Lupita Nyong’o (as Helen of Troy and her supposed sister, Clytemnestra, not part of Homer’s epic) and transsexual Elliot Page (formerly known as Ellen Page as Sinon), these are relatively minor parts in the epic, which concerns the attempt of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, to return home after the Trojan War (played by Matt Damon).

I beg to differ with Mr. Kristin. We are gradually coming out of a strange, sick period of our history where we were basically cajoled by our government to take an untested COVID vaccine of questionable value, subjected to ridicule and sometimes political and legal harassment if we refused to accept that there are multiple (not two) genders, and that men can become women and vice versa.

This “Woke” thinking has created massive problems for some Europeans, whose countries don’t guarantee the right of free speech, and will arrest and incarcerate you if you say or write something that others feel is “offensive”.

Accepting that Helen of Troy. Described by Homer as being the most beautiful woman in the world with fair skin and hair was instead a black woman with a twin sister not mentioned in the epic, and that a “trans-man” actor should be considered normal is a toe-in-the-door to continued “Woke” nonsense.

Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels said that if you repeat a lie loud enough and often enough, it will come to be accepted as the truth. This concept led to the extermination of millions of innocent people, and much of Europe laid waste, including Germany.

For a very long time, the once patriotic institution of Hollywood filmmaking has been taken over by a left-leaning group of individuals who wish to replace good old American common sense with silly political doctrine. This must come to an end. One of the ways to accomplish this is not to financially support this nonsense by buying overpriced tickets to see this drivel in a theatre.

Well-made films will return when filmmakers realize that the public is not going to buy into the trash they are producing. It’s as simple as that. A big thumbs down on Christopher Nolan’s Odyssey!
