In the late 1800s vigilance groups were operating in San Francisco, to deal with malefactors that city fathers could not, or would not, bring to heel.

Today, isn’t it ironic that individual states are often doing more to infringe on our liberty than the Feds? They knowingly pass laws that are unconstitutional, which the Supreme Court may later overturn, but years down the road — because this process allows long periods of infringement upon our freedoms I find this practice very unsatisfactory. A better system would overturn bad legislation in something much closer to real time, and an ideal one might even impose penalties on those who create unconstitutional legislation, up to and including prompt removal from office.
